I don't think he will be able to delay it much, at least not for more than a month or so. The Constitution demands that the Census be held in 2020 and they simply won't have enough time to do it if they don't get started soon. Does Trump really want to have failing to perform a basic function of his office, as explicitly defined in the Constitution, hanging over his head come an election year?
It wouldn't matter one bit to Trump and his base would respect him for it. The average person wouldn't care. It definitely wouldn't hurt him.

Here's what the Dems should do. If Trump fails to implement the new 2020 census Dems need to arrest the Sec of Commerce. House has the right. Come on Dems, grow a pair!

The problem is I'm not sure that prospect would deter Trump. He would just spin it as the Democrats are stopping him from doing it the "right" way and it is really unfair. His base would lap it up and even support him for it.

If we go around worrying about what his base thinks we might as well just give up. He could declare himself god-emperor and they would cheer. Can we just get over this and all agree to just assume that no matter what Trump does his base will lap it up and support him? They are well trained. Ring the bell and they salivate.

We are not fighting for his base, we are fighting against them.

I agree with you I just question if there are any real consequences for him delaying the census.

I agree. This is a problem our country is facing in general. Is there consequences for our leaders if they simply refuse to enforce the rules? We are seeing this on almost ever level. Those in charge simply ignore any rules that they don't like. We are going to have to solve this soon, or our entire civilization is going to break down.

Thoughts on the Chief's Strategy in the Census Case

https://takecareblog.com/blog/thoughts-on-the-chief-s-strategy-in-the-census-case

It’s extremely likely that the citizenship question will appear on the 2020 census—and the Chief intended precisely that result. Let me explain why.

I thought the same thing for the exact same reasons.

I wouldn't get too excited about this. They basically said, come up with a better reason that doesn't have evidence that that reasoning was based on rigging the system. We'll ignore your original intent if you do.

The census bureau claims they needed a decision quickly because they have to go to print, we'll see if that was a lie as well.

The judges basically said, its ok to bull shit your reasoning for wanting to add the question, just don't let us or anyone else find out that your reasoning is bs and you'll be good.

These people need to DIAF I believe is the term. Republicans are toxic to democracy and the rule of law. It's that simple.

They have to re-litigate the whole thing, which would delay the census, which is not lawful. The court won't be back until October. The Admin asked the court for a decision before they said they needed to send it to the printers, which is today, and they have it. The court would take a very dim view of them not fulfilling that primary mission.

I guess you haven't learned anything about this admin.

https://www.npr.org/2019/07/02/7376...-census-printing-sets-up-count-s-biggest-risk

The Trump administration appears to have missed its own deadline Monday to start the printing of paper forms and other mailings that will play a key role in next year's constitutionally mandated head count of every person living in the U.S.

As of Monday evening, the 2020 census materials did not appear to have been officially approved by the White House's Office of Management and Budget for printing, according to a website tracking OMB's review process.

In another sign that production has not begun, Justice Department attorneys told a federal judge in Maryland on Monday that the administration has not yet reached a final decision on whether it will try to make another case in court for adding to census forms a hotly contested citizenship question.

U.S. District Judge George Hazel, who is presiding over recently reopened lawsuits over the question, has agreed to hold a hearing on the issue Tuesday, plaintiffs' attorneys Denise Hulett of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Shankar Duraiswamy of Covington & Burling tell NPR.

Maybe we should add a question asking if you or anyone in your household own a gun?

Maybe it should also include , “Do any of your neighbors own a firearm. Name, address, number and type.”
Might as well since we are adding questions that are not relevant to the purpose of the census. Just make sure before you die to wipe your computers of any memos talking about how we want to use this information to confiscate weapons and we should be in the clear.

That right. I’m not asking to make a registry of gun owners or reduce conservative participation so I can undercount them and reduce their representation.

I’m doing it so we can better implement the 2nd amendment. Yup that’s what I’m doing. ;)

I'm sure it will still get done on time, they will just spend more of the Taxpayer's money to do so. Fiscally conservative until it inconveniences them. Personal Responsibility until they don't get their way.

DOJ attorneys have advised their opponents that the 2020 census will be printed *without* the citizenship question and the printer has been told to begin production.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/02/us/census-citizenship-question.html

The Trump administration said Tuesday that it would be printing forms for the 2020 census without a question asking about citizenship, abandoning its quest to add the query after being blocked last week by the Supreme Court.

The decision is a victory for critics who said the question was part of an administration effort to skew the census results in favor of Republicans.

exactly. there's a point where you ignore the fringe lunatics, let them die in their own shit, and drag the criminal agent out of the white house by force if necessary, with a shock collar and angry dogs if needed.

our country is more important than a bunch of brainwashed rednecks that have decided that stroking their unbridled ignorance is more important than simple human dignity.
