Check the following forum post:
Cendyne/ Ricoh 7080A 8X4X32 4MB for $99.99

It is the same drive that you speak of. They say it is a Ricoh.

The Cendyne drives being sold by CompUSA have a 2Mb buffer. With
a rebadging company like Cendyne, you never know what's really
in the box...

If you read the ad carefully, it says that you also get a FREE 50 pack CDRW bulk media with every purchase of a CDR/W drive.

If it's a rebadged Plextor, it's a damn good deal.

I still would go for the 12x though. Burn-proof.

call me stupid but what is burn proof? Why would you buy the plextor 12x, Dosn't it cost alot more than 99 bucks? Is the one (IOmega) in todays DOTD worth the 60.00 difference ? I really dont need the extra speed!

Every Cendyne 8x4x32 I've installed so far has been a rebadged Plextor, so not too bad of a deal....
