Cellphone: Would you sacrifice durability for performance?

I just got my new phone. It's the A900M. Seems that one of the things they changed with the M is that it's plastic whereas the A900 was metal. They did it for better reception. Obviously they sacrificed durability for that. Curious what you guys think.

how rough are most people on phones?
how long do people keep phones?

we have a nokia that is plastic and 4-5 years old

i don't think metal/plastic really matters unless you are dropping and stomping it daily

They make an extended Battery now which I will get if I find this one to be too bad.
My last phone is the Blackberry 7100i which doesn't have great battery life either, but was fine for me. I charge my phone every night anyway.

I thought about getting it a couple months ago when our contract came up. I ended up getting 4 Katana's for a total of $160.

Nope. Reason why I stopped buying Motorola phones - I had two V300's - dropped both onto concrete from no more than 4 feet, both stopped working completely. Luckily both still under TMobile warranty. Have dropped my old Treo 600 and my newer Treo 650 on the ground multiple times, same height - the only thing it does is turn off the service. No cracked screen, nothing.

I hate all these new phones. I am still using my samsung a670. When it hits the 2 year mark I'll probably get a new phone for the discounted price then resell it on ebay and keep my a670.
