Cellphone for my GF

Hi guys!

I am planning a Christmass gift for my GF. I want to replace her Sony Xperia X6 which turned out to be a really crappy cellphone - but the design is OK for a girl so I was thinking about Sony Xperia U (I like the color-changing light strip on the bottom) and a, lso about Nokia Lumia 900, but I am not sure about the Win Phone OS.

Please do not recommend me gadgets like iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, I am fed up with these law-suite happy companies and their products.

Thanks!

HTC One X. I still think samsung has the superior product.

Cell phones are kind of a personal thing, and women are crazy (from the male perspective). Who here can understand the need for 10+ pairs of shoes, 10+ purses, etc? Why not just take her cell phone shopping and just pay for whatever one she picks?

Or covertly find out. Have a conversation that conveniently leads to her disclosing a phone she likes. Some how I'm sure it can be done.

If that's your criteria, I'd probably avoid the Nokia Lumia as well. Nokia sued Apple a few years ago over patents and recently filed suits against RIM and HTC. Microsoft has also been involved in a lot of patent litigation. Same with most of the other phone manufacturers, though you don't hear much about it.

Probably should get a phone from one of the Chinese manufacturers. As far as I know they haven't sued anyone. Also want to avoid any phones running iOS, Windows Phone, or Android as the companies that develop those operating systems are all currently suing other companies over patents in mobile. I think you'd be pretty safe going with Firefox OS as I don't think Mozilla has sued anyone.

Fortunately, it looks like such a phone just might exist: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57515945-94/ztes-first-firefox-os-devices-to-launch-in-first-quarter/

Mopetar please do not twist my words. I am just saying I don't their products nor do I like they current image.

Guys thx for the notes! I will try to figure something out.

Whatever emotion you might have meant to imply was utterly lost once it was turned into text. I'm just pointing out that it's somewhat silly to hold this position for Samsung/Apple, but not the other companies that are also participating in ongoing litigation, but aren't getting nearly as much coverage.

Unless 'these' only refers to Apple and Samsung. Otherwise it can be broadly interpreted as any law-suite happy company. I'm not sure how that counts as twisting your words.

This is coming from a Galaxy S3 owner. Besides design aesthetic (which is subjective), i believe the One X meets or exceeds the Galaxy in most benchmarks including brighter screen (for daytime), better night-time shooting, comparable processing power. I bought the S3 for the SD expansion card slot which I don't even use right now. I like the S3's look but i'm just saying...

iPhone = less troubleshooting for you = happier relationship = more sexy time

Think about it.😎

Pretty much my decision too. I wouldn't consider anything other than an android phone for myself (Gnex) since I love to tinker, tweak etc. But I'll probably get my wife an iPhone 5, since she get's easily annoyed by "tech issues". She also dislike the giant phones these days, even saying the IP 5 is big.

Although I'm a bit hesitant with the shit maps, new connector etc. Hopefully she won't care. Oh, but what will we do with the $25 ipod dock in the kitchen! 😛

Is she actually interested in gadgets?

Well, she likes good looking phones with big shiny displays - the Sony Xperia X8 (oops, said Xperia X6 in the OP) that I gave her in the past met all these criteria. But as time goes by I want to give her something new.

She really liked the menu, widgets and Android market, that's why I have been thinking about Xperia U.

So you claim samsung is a lawsuit happy company because apple is a greedy pos and sued them even though they make the most popular and arguable best android devices??

I cannot take you seriously because for most females (except for maybe my sister) an iphone is much more friendly and more in. We all know that being in is important.

Why not let her decide in a round about way. Like say you are fed up with your phone and ask her what phone she would use cause you might need to drop your current device. Then youll probably find out whether iphone is on the short list.

'Nuther vote for Lumia 920. Great camera. Snazzy colors. Wireless charging. Win8 seems to be a nice improvement and has the opportunity to open up a massive number of apps to it since it's on the same code as the desktop side of Win8.

Also has excellent social network integration over other devices.
