Hi, I have a cheap cellphone, a Samsung SGH-T139. The phone was working fine for about a year, but after the last time I recharged it, it just comes up to a screen with the model number of the phone and an error message in red, 3D010017. The keyboard lights are flashing also.

Does anyone know what happened and if there is any way to fix it??

Apparently this is a known issue with this phone, as there are several postings on the internet about the exact same problem. Unfortuately, no one had a workable solution. I thought someone in this more tech savvy group might have an answer.

I called Samsung tech service and got no help, just someone obviously going through a pre-written series of questions with a set of canned and worthless answers. Her main concern seemed to be that I had damaged the phone or did not know how to charge it properly. Should have told her I ran over it with a truck and wanted a replacement. Anyway, it is not a big disaster, but since I use the phone only for very occasional use or in case of emergency, I hate to have to buy another. I also would like to recover the photos on it and my contacts.

You could buy a new one for $30

True, but that was not the point of the post. I know how much a new phone costs.

I decided just about a month ago to minimize cell phone costs and not upgrade to a smart phone. I bought 450 minutes, and thought I was done dealing with cell phone expenses for a year or so. But now I am stuck with a bunch of unused minutes and a worthless phone.

I know overall it is not a major disaster, but it is just very annoying, especially since the local sales office and technical support didnt seem to have a clue about what seems to be a known issue with this phone.
