I know someone that thinks it's possible to call a cell phone with some kind of special code and basically tap that phone and listen in, and more specifically on nextel phones. Paranoid enough for you? hehe So being curious I googled around and found nothing, though I do recall something of the sort from the BOFH. Personally I think he's crazy. And out of nothing else to do I posted here.

I never regard any conversation over the phone (especially a cell phone) as secure, but then if anyone actually cared enough to listen to my conversations they'd really be wasting time.

Oh no no no :)

We are talking about your cellphone transmitting ambient audio - a "bug" if you will - even when you think it is off :|

Oh, that is pretty crazy. I guess there's no reason that's it not possible, but the cell phone spectrum is a precious commodity. I doubt they (the government, whomever) would use their limited number of taps (or whatever you would call them) to listen to the OP's friend. ;)
