Cell phone question

I am currently using Verizon Wireless and my contract expires at the end of the month. I've been looking into getting a new phone and possibly a new carrier.

I am not a fan of the fact that Verzion has crippled their phones so that they do not support bluetooth transfers or transfers to a PC. This essentially forces you to pay absurd prices for ring tones and picture transfers that can and should be done for free to your PC. I hate these sort of tactics and will not accept them as a business solution.

My problem is that I'm not very familiar with phones or carriers that do not employ this underhanded tactic. I am definitely willing to move away from Verzion, even at a loss of overall service, to show that I do not support this. I just don't know where to go!

Do any of you have any experience with providers or specific phones that are not bluetooth or transfer crippled? Are there any forums that might deal with this? I found HowardForums to be a good source of general information, but it seems to be hard to find a forum that has advice specific to this issue.

I appreciate any information you could provide. Thanks.

Verizon offers bluetooth, but the bluetooth is crippled (does not offer some services it should).

I was going to suggest a hacked e815, but <shrug>.

my V3c is hacked. bluetooth only. but there are many who hacked the WAP as well
good luck if you switch off from verizon. you may get a nicer looking phone with bluetooth and etc etc, but without good reception, it's just a pimped out gadget that doesn't do its main function well: making phone calls

and to all of you non-verizon users, verizon does cripple their bluetooth so its headset only. OBEX is disabled. but there is a hack for the earlier versions of v3c. hell i even got rid of their stupid vcast and slow as crap OS and loaded the Alltel flash in there. works great. i hacked it for both mine and my gf's v3c.

I'm not too worried about the overall service. I'll be living in the Chicagoland area and every major cell carrier will have a strong base there if they're worth their salt.

My main concern is not this limited functionality, but I refuse to purchase an item which has been crippled for 'my benefit' while I'm forced to pay out the nose to reinforce their business plans. All I want is a phone with a clean UI, clear calls, and the ability to play ringtones that I persoanlly can upload to it. That's all I need.

I'll take a look at the phones you guys have suggested. Thanks for the tips.

you're wrong. there are so many dead spots. i used to use cingular and my gf tmobile before we both switch to VZW. you would get 4 or 5 blocks of signal on the phone, but they're so bad ,that you would get dropped calls and you would answer but one side won't be able to hear the other, etc etc.

yeah they may be spending a lot of money to improve it, but with verizon it is the best in terms of reliability. here in NYC, we dealt with the blackout 2003, and verizon had the least busy signal when the entire population of the city is trying to make phone calls. ( i was using at&t/cingular and it was impossible)

trust me, it wil be annoying when you cant make calls or your calls are dropped. i hate calling people not on verizon, they think they have great reception and always blame me when our call is dropped.

if you decide to stay verizon, get the RAZR v3C, if you have the new every 2, you get 100 bucks back so the phone is basically free if you re-sign with them for 2 years. i believe you can still hack it for Bluetooth (go to howardforums.com to confirm). mine is 100% uncrippled after the hack using my dad's t-mobile razr v3 usb cable. now i upload a lot of mp3 and ringtones to the phone via Bluetooth.

Which one of each?

And from someone who can't figure out what the OP is talking about and why he's pissed, I highly doubt it. Never mind your basic lack of language skills.

before I can suggest a carrier, let me know what region you are in. From personal expericence, location is a big factor.

yes, i come to atot to display my language skills. you must have no life if you really needed to point that out.

read the first post again. the op said that verizon does not support bluetooth. and that was what i'm trying to argue. yes, verizon doesn't carry all the newer high-tech cell phones, but it doesn't mean that they cripple their service by not providing certain services at all.

learn how to read before you make dumbass comments like a 3 year old.

Or it took me three seconds to add in the fact that you've got about the same English skills as a Rhesus monkey tweaked on amphetamines.

Samsung A900.

Slim form, camera, blue tooth, ftp between devices, USB port to download pictures/songs.
I know you can set your pictures as backgrounds, I dont know if you can set ringtones. I assume you can, but I havent tried so before you go get one you might want to check.

I've been too busy watching TV on my phone to mess with the ringtones.

No, he is not. He is agreeing that Verizon has crippled their phones so that they do not support bluetooth transfers or transfers to a PC. Take English 101 sometime.

The ownage train that you got hit by.
The OP never said Verizon doesnt have Bluetooth phones. He said their BT phones are crippled.

Read it again sunshine.

My son's V3c is able to transfer MP3 files using the USB cable. It also connects via bluetooth, and we didn't have to hack anything. Are the new phones different? Either way, there certainly are work arounds. Anybody who can post on a forum should be able to master them.

I have a Verizon E815 and a SE K750i (1900mhz only) on T-Mobile and haven't really found Verizon's network to be that much better. I like the K750i MUCH better.
