Cell Phone Providers

Ok... so long story short::

moving to north carolina... but I'm in college in Baltimore, MD...
and I need to know which provider is best...
I've heard that T-mobile isn't quite up to par in NC... (anyone have experience there?)
I currently have Verizon... and am pretty much considering switching to AT&T+Cingular or remaining w/Verizon...

I figure now that cingular bought out at&t ... their coverage should be good...
Verizon doesn't offer as nice of phones as AT&T... I'd be waiting for the next amazon cell phone deals as my 2 year contract ends in August...

So yeah... which provider do you have? and which one do you think is best?

a very loaded question. Don't even bother asking here unless you get an answer from someone that has actual experience in the area that you are talking about. You might as well ask "Who's the best automaker" or "AMD or Intel". There are fanboys of every company.

there is a 30 days buyer remorse for a reason. the reason is TRY THEM OUT BEFORE THEY LOCK YOU IN A CONTACT. whatever works for you, use it. asking people for opinion is useless.

verizon has great coverage....what for if you don't travel?

Don't switch. Unless you you plan on sticking arond the major cities and nor moving anywhere. I spent last summer in Charlotte and traveled around quite a lot to Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Ashville, Raleigh etc and coverage was top notch. People with ATT, TMobile, Sprint etc had decent service but then would have major dead spots along the way while traveling.

I've had to evaluate a bunch of phones/providers in the past year so I have some basis for what i'm about to say. This is in MN, btw. I had a DobsonCellular (CellOne) phone for two years, a SprintPCS phone for another two, and now a Nextel.

From experience the CellOne phone had the best rural coverage. However this in no way applies to your geographic location. Moving on.

Sprint had good highway coverage and enough roaming where it wasn't on-network to make me happy. The coverage is acceptable most of the time. They seem to have the most gadget-equipped phones of anyone.

Nextel coverage is a tad below average when traveling. The metro/city area coverage is excellent and the direct-connect is absolutely priceless if other people at your workplace have them and open lines of communication are important. Knowing the limitations of the coverage, I must say that Nextel is great in a business situation.

Last, but not least, Verizon. They have the best coverage of anyone, almost anyplace. They now have direct connect, which is sweet. However they are more expensive than other providers. Basically if you have the money, Verizon is great.

I work for VW and we just expanded the network in NC. Make sure you update your PRL before going to NC because some of the areas that use to show up as roaming are now extended network.
