Cell phone plans

I've had exactly 1 cell phone plan in my life, and I just went in and got the cheapest plan they were offering at the time. I need a new phone (my 3 year old phone is having issues) and my old contract has long since gone month to month. (so no penalty for switching providers)

I currently have Sprint. If I go to another provider, say Verizon, will they offer me any kind of deal on phones or service plans? Or can I even get Sprint to offer me a deal for not switching?

Any advice on the matter would be appreciated.

Call Sprint and tell them that you want to cancel because your cell phone isn't working fine and you don't want to spend money on buying a new one. They will try to retain you by offering more minutes+free cell at the same price plan.

I have done this once with Sprint. I used to have 350 anytime and 3150 n&w minutes. After a year I called and to keep me as their customer they gave me 750 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekend minutes free sprint to sprint calling and a free phone. Although I had to sign another one year contract but it was the best plan at that time (2002) for 39.99.

I had AT&T and now its is cingular... My plan is 39.99 per month for 900 mins, unlimited moble to moble, nights and weekends free starting at 7:00 pm. I upgrade my cell phone every 6 months or so for basically free with mail-in rebates. I had sprint and they their phones are not cheap to upgrade.

Well that's the catch. I'm looking at pda phones. I highly doubt that I'll get one of those for free.

Buddy of mine called up once and said he was cancelling because their service sucked and he hated their phone... they gave him some sweet deal with minutes and weekends and stuff, plus a free brand new phone (bottom of the line phone, but what the hell)

Either that or the Samsung i730. I'm in no hurry and Sprint will eventually get it. I just want to know if it's possible to score a deal on any of the plans or on a plan with a new provider.

Do what these guys just said...call to cancel.
They will try to retain you and see what they can offer you.
Worst case scenario...if they don't offer you anything...call to uncancel befire your period is up.
