...uhhh I know I had a bit to drink tonight but I swear I'm not seeing things:) Apparently there has been an influx of "James Bond-like" cell phone guns - or, guns that look like cell phones. Check it out here

When did IGN post this video? It's probably the same video they speak about in the news article. And how accurate would these be? The barrel doesn't look very long...so I'd guess it isn't very accurate, but then again I'm not even close to being a firearms expert.

this would be used for something less than 6-10 feet away. as you can see there is no way to aim it. just point blank and go. probably a self defense item.

reminds me of this
portable phone

.22 is a pretty lame caliber, and you better make damn sure all 4 shots hit or you're just going to make someone mad. if it was .25 in P+ ammo that'd be different. i dont think i would feel safe using that.

How accurate?

I'd say about 6 ft.

Which would have been about as far as I was from that guy that broke into my house.

Uh oh, time to start registering cell phones.

When you outlaw cell phones, only outlaws will have cell phones.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Most of Europe has "strict gun control" - I don't see why they're so worried about them . . .

<<The phone guns, manufactured in several Eastern European countries, have been uncovered by police in several countries in Europe during the past months. A cache of the weapons was seized in Netherlands. Ten phone guns were found in the possession of an arms dealer who was crossing a border out of Croatia, and single units have been found in Germany and England.

None have been found entering Canada or the United States.

The guns are increasing in popularity not only with gangsters and drug dealers negotiating in a dangerous underworld, but also with young men looking for a novelty gadget.
>>

Proof that when criminals have a will, they will find a way.

<<In the United States, Ira Silverstein, a Democratic Senator from Chicago, is pushing to have the phone guns made illegal. Mr. Silverstein told the Senate Judiciary Committee: "I consider this my James Bond bill.">>

Proof that a politician will make a law for every non-problem that doesn't exist.

BTW, here in IL, we know Ira well. The man has never seen a gun he didn't want to ban. I bet he's having wet dreams about being able to pass a ban a gun, even though that gun has never even made it into the US.

The ironic thing here is, Ira is banning the very product of a gun ban. These guns would not exist, were it not for the gun bans in Europe.

That phone that shoots the user when you dial a 3 digit code sounds like a hoax.

Theres no way in hell that thing could be legal.

I wonder what the 3 digits are?

Probably 6 6 6

It is virtually impossible for the average citizen to own a handgun in nearly all the countries of Europe, except Switzerland... And the EU has forced them to tighten restrictions recently.

Indeed, but there's no ban on guns.

You can still request one if you need a firearm. Self-protection is not a good enough reason, especially because hardly any criminals/burglars are armed with anything more than a knife.

I'd say that it works pretty well.

You would.

And a virtual ban is just as much a ban as a full ban.

Only the people who need a firearm will get one. Firearms are not as common here as in the US. We've very few shootings. We've had no schoolshootings so far. You can walk over street late at night without expecting to be robbed by a guy pointing a gun at your head.

Everything is better than selling firearms without any kind of control.

If you like living someplace where the elite can tell you what you need or not, fine.

I like deciding that for myself, thank you very much.

Hmm.. you're one of those hard-core 'freedom' guys, aren't you?

Freedom is relative. For example, we can choose to get euthanasia and people in the US can not. 'nuff said.
