sometimes those small stores offer very competitively priced plans - in comparison to going to a big dog store like (i.e.: official verizon store, or official cingular booth, etc.)
 
FYI, the deals for AT&T are actually much better. If you buy the 8260 at amazon or buy.com, it's $80. You still get the $50 gift card, and have your choice of:

1 year activation: $40 rebate
2 year activation: $80 rebate, and free activation(save $35)

i think thats for the regular phone...like 3000 minutes on ur home phone instead of paying 5 cents per minute within state etc....

I think you mean the $29.99 for 3000 minutes. 200 anytime and 2800 night and weekend. The every minute/every day part refers to the free nationwide long distance.

This is a great thread. I just wish I could find a service that will start the weekend unlimited at 8pm fri. Give me 400 free anytime minutes, and charge me only $25 a month. Is that asking too much?
We at Anandtechgot special pricing on Crucial Ram. Why not from one of these services. There are plenty of people here, I'll bet they would get a bunch to sign up if there was a special price for Anandtech members.
Can anyone pull this off. I used to work for a large storage company and Cingular gave its employees a super deal. I'm willing to bet that it could happen here.

i agree with you bluz--still waiting for cell phones to hit critical mass. anyway, just have to bag on cingular. i'm in the ucla dorms and it's nearly impossible to dial out after mid afternoon, and downright impossible after the free nights start. i've bitched and moaned, and i got 50 free minutes from cingular, but that's it. i'm ready to cancel. they should be like verizon and get some towers on campus--verizon has 2. alright, that's my rant. check out the online petition. 4000+ sigs can't be wrong.

if you want to go with voicestream wait a few weeks they are coming out with some awesome phones for under $200 and many are under $150. I saw a few preview of them at BB and they look awesome.
