Cell phone conundrum

Okay. So a couple weeks ago I finally bowed to peer pressure and started looking at cell phones. A couple coworkers have Treos (one a 600p, the other a 700p) and another coworker has a Nokia 9300. These are all pretty bulky but have some features that would be useful occasionally (the ability to run an SSH client on the phone to connect to work servers or to use the phone as a broadband modem). I also like the idea that, at least with the Treo, I can create my own applications (in principle, you can build your own Symbios apps for the Nokia as well but I think the phone requires apps to be signed).

Anyway, there are so many choices and the idea of a locking myself into a 2-year contract still doesn't sit well with me.

So...what cell phone do you have? What features do you use? Have you ditched your landline?

i have a samsung a900 on sprint. I use the alarm clock the most, but also use the Power Vision to surf the net sometimes. Google Maps is pretty cool as well.

i'm looking to get a 700p but dont really want to pay the $500, plus its 2x as thick as the A900 i currently have. no landline btw, for 4 years now.

EDIT: looking back now, I wouldnt go with Sprint. The other major carriers let you switch your phone either via SIM card (for GSM) or online (Verizon) without having to call in. Its a pain to call in every time I want to switch from my A900 to a non-camera phone. Plus it also resets the "new-every-2" counter. Total scam!

How much are you looking to spend?

I have a HTC Prophet. I currently use Push Mail to receive all my emails on my phone.
