Umm...The Celica has a red line of 7500RPM...were you trying to say you don't need a 6 speed with a high revving engine? Oh...okay
As for choosing between the GS-R and GT-S...toughie. From what people say the 6-speed in the Celica, as well as the course nature of the engine, is what's keeping the Celica from being the all out king of sport compacts. The 220A(am I at least close with the generation number?) had a nice 5 speed, as well as a smooth 2.2L engine(it was tepid on power).
The GS-R is getting a wee bit long in the tooth, but it's still got a butt load of refinement compared to...well there aren't many sport compacts around. The Celica has more power, more torque, a well tuned suspension and standout styling(it appeals to females though). The GS-R...um...those 4 bug eye lamps aren't so controversial anymore...making the car look bland. It's comfortable though...reliable...and has infinite possibilities.
In the end...I must say I want a Volkswagen Corrado 1.8T
then after that...maybe a Spoon Integra
