Hey...don't knock the car that started the pocket rocket segment! Anyhoo...

Umm...The Celica has a red line of 7500RPM...were you trying to say you don't need a 6 speed with a high revving engine? Oh...okay;)

As for choosing between the GS-R and GT-S...toughie. From what people say the 6-speed in the Celica, as well as the course nature of the engine, is what's keeping the Celica from being the all out king of sport compacts. The 220A(am I at least close with the generation number?) had a nice 5 speed, as well as a smooth 2.2L engine(it was tepid on power).

The GS-R is getting a wee bit long in the tooth, but it's still got a butt load of refinement compared to...well there aren't many sport compacts around. The Celica has more power, more torque, a well tuned suspension and standout styling(it appeals to females though). The GS-R...um...those 4 bug eye lamps aren't so controversial anymore...making the car look bland. It's comfortable though...reliable...and has infinite possibilities.

In the end...I must say I want a Volkswagen Corrado 1.8T:p then after that...maybe a Spoon Integra:)

The Golf started the Pocket Rocket genre? I'm not doubting it a bit, just curious. When did the first performance Golf come out? I like the newer ones, but they need more power (as with everything :p)

It started with the original Golf GTi, a 1.6 liter, 110 hp, 101 lb-ft, and just barely under 2000 lbs. This segment of cars is what later known as GTI (including today's audi S3), cheap hatchbacks with sporty characteristics.

Second version of golf had the GTi 16V, a 2 liter 4 valve per cylinder pushing out 139 hp and 124 lb-ft.

Third version is the introduction of the 2.8 liter, 6 cylinder V configuration VR6 engine.

Actually, I'd consider the Mini Cooper S as the great grandfather of GTIs.

Type SH has the active handling mechanism. Supposed to be the best handling car under $30,000. (some magazine claimed that maybe around '97)

<< The Integra is old and still based on the Civic >>

It's true. The integra platform comes from a stretched civic. Never driven a celica but the problem with many honda 4 banger engines is that below 4k rpm, there is zero power. Fun as driving for pleasure, but sucks when you gotta pass someone and the engine is screaming for mercy. Plus no torque overall. My friend had a GSR and when you pile in 3 full size guys in there, it slows down alot.

More power? These things are already doing 6.8 second 0-60's stock. They're pushing just a hair under 200lbs of torque. Factor that in with leather, cd player, heated seats and mirrors, sunroof, and the whole slew of other options that comes on it and that's one hell of a car for 23k.

You've definitely never heard of the Corrado VR6 then:)

Ooo baby:)

0-60: 6.4 seconds
1/4 mile: 15.0 seconds
Top Speed: 141mph

Mmmm...178BHP and 177lb/t in a 2800lb body...droool:)

The G60 Corrado has 158bhp and 166lb/t in a 2400lb body
0-60: 7.5
1/4 Mile: 16.94
Top Speed: 132mph

However...with lysholm supercharger, the Corrado puts 200WHP(236ish BHP), and 200+ lb/torque. Can you say too fast for your own good?:) Let's not even get into a T3/T4 Hybrid turbocharged Corrado G60:)

FAST dub hasn't been an oxymoron since 1979 when the GTI hit the streets. There are some truly bad ass A2 GTIs out there....I want one:)

<< GT-S will burn the integra GS-R >>

no it wont.

the integra is arguably the best out of the imports for under 25k. you wont get that yellow i dont think, cause you might only be able to get it on the type R, which there are none left new, and if you do find one new, be prepared to hand them a blank check.

celicas have a CLEAN interior, integras are kind of plain. but the power of the honda vtec motor is superb for an I4. if you dont think it has power think again...it has the BIGGEST aftermarket support. Celica are iffy on looks...some like, some dont.

test drive em. the GSR is a solid buy. it goes neck and neck with my SI, and i know the celly is a tad quicker..but you are paying more initially...where you could grab a gsr, strap some aem cams and spank that celica for a fraction that the difference cost.

do remember this is the integras last year.

I personally can't stand driving a 4 cylander. That's why I got an SVT Contour instead of an Integra R.

a more detailed answer for the prelude question. the type sh has clutches on the wheels so that for instance you turn really hard to the right the left wheel's clutch will shift to make that wheel get more power. therefore better traction on the ground and go through less tires. I have only driven the sh and i love how it handles I have never driven a regular stock prelude so i couldn't tell you if it's worth the extra money.

i would have to say the GS-R... i drive a '94 Integra LS, and i totally love it, so i can only suspect that the GS-R is better... i don't really care for the GTS cuz it doesn't really appeal to me...

as for the Prelude, i would totally go for that... i was trying to go for one instead of the Teg, but i couldn't afford it (heck i only got an LS)... but that's just my 2

Hey valhalla1....Do you not like any import at all or what? So are you saying a Skyline and a Supra are rice? The NSX is is certainly not rice. Just my thoughts tho. I may be wrong.

*sorry for crapping on your thread, but I would go for a Celica GTS. Super Street or Sport Copacy Car did a comparison between a Type-R, a Celica GTS, a Prelude SH, and a GSR. They did some basic test and the Celica came in @nd place and the GSR in last.

The Prelude SH has (as mentioned above) the active torque transfer system, which I believe works at *gasp* transferring torque between the four wheels for better handling in extreme turning conditions.

However, unless you plan on taking your Prelude to Le Mans anytime soon, you really aren't going to get much use out of the ATTS...and considering it adds about 700 pounds or so to car weight, it really isn't worth it in my opinion.

Though I'm still crying over not being able to afford my WRX this year...*sniff sniff*

i vote for the Celica... but i'm biased cause i'm a toyo-guy,... but seriously though, the Celica has some great features, looks sharp, isn't nearly as played out as integra's... and is just an all round nice car...

p.s. i dunno bout acura's, but since they're notched-up honda's , i'd like to add honda quality isn't the best, and every one i've been in, quite a few, has considerable cabin noise... (wind etc...)

the new Celica GT-S no question...i never thought integras were that good looking. but the celica is just sharp. and you cant pass on that 6 speed manual;)...i own a 95 Celica GT (my favorite body style), and while i still think the previous body style is better, the new celica is kick @ss!

I think there's no point in getting a type R, for that money, seriously go in style and get a Maxima SE, that sucker is nice, doesn't look as good as the previous generation but the inside is niiiiiiiiiiiicccce. I'm surprised to read the gts beats out a gsr, I haven't gotten a car and driver in months(even though I have a subscription, anyone have a number where I can call for this problem?), anyway, I don't know how loud it is in a celica but gsr's are really noisy, it really bugs at times. type sh is not worth it cuz of the extra weight if you're going for speed. corrados are really nice, to bad they don't make anymore of those suckers(for US anyway?). As much as I hate to say it, cuz its ugly, but the svt contour does perform really well also.

on the prelude the ATTS only adds a little less than 200 pounds and a prelude is front wheele drive and therefore it only affects the front wheel.

edit: go to the honda site and there are interesting little videos about the special features and you can compare one of their models against any other make. I found out more about mustangs on the honda site than on the ford site.

the celica gt-s is not just a tad faster than the integra gs-r, it's a good deal quicker. for instance, the gt-s does 0-60 in 6.7 seconds while the integra gs-r does it in 7.2 seconds. half a second may not seem alot but on the road, it matters. the celica gt-s hits 149 mph top speed, while the integra gs-r hits about 135. i have raced my friend's 2000 celica gt-s against another friend's integra gs-r and i have burned him on the road, and the freeway. we also switched seats in which i drove the integra gs-r and i lost. we're talking about stock, right out of the dealer. not with after market parts and such. btw, about not being able to find any yellow type-R models, you must be smoking some crack because i can find them at several dealers, especially in california. and no, i don't have to write a blank check. please research what you're saying before opening your mouth
