Hi, ive had a problem with my pc. it just didn't turn on one day. At first i thought is was the m/b so i bought a new one. socket 478. i assumed this was the correct one for my processor. when i received it i put it all together and it just didn't turn on, again ! so i think either it's my celeron cpu is broke or motherboards are different for celeron and celeron D's. Is there any difference between the two processors ?

celeron or celeron D. should they both work in the same motherboard ?

Thanks in advance

Well not all socket 478 motherboards will support all socket 478 cpu's, so you have to make sure the motherboard is compatible with your CPU. There were 400mhz FSB williamettes, 400mhz FSB northwoods, 533mhz fsb northwoods, and some prescotts, 800mhz FSB northwoods and prescotts. Not all of the socket 478 motherboards support all of those processors, so you would have to give more info about your motherboard. It's unlikely that the CPU itself would just off and die, so it's more likely something else. Could be memory, PSU(more likely), or motherboard. You need to try and narrow down the problem.

Does it power on at all? Any lights/beeping etc? If no power at all, more likely to be the PSU. List your new motherboard so we can verify CPU compatibility. Try with the bare minimums, CPU/heatsink and fan, 1 stick of ram, video card. Disconnect everything else, hard drives, cd/dvd drives, sound card/modem etc. Make sure everything is connected properly, make sure you connected the power switch to the right spot etc..
