I saw some website has 256K L2 Cache Celeron. Its price is even lower than 128K L2 Cache model. And it is retail box. I checked intel web site. I did not see they mention 256K L2 Cache for Celeron. What is the different between these two? Is there anything wrong here? Should I order it?

By the way I saw on some other website that it is FCPGA2 instead of FCPGA. What is the difference between them? Does it require some special feature on motherboard?

Thank you very much,

dodo:confused:

Thanks for the infor. So do you mean that this one can not work on Slot 1 motherboard with a FCPGA Convert Card?

WIth an adapter from PowerLeap, they can. They make a very nice upgrade to an older slot 1 based machine, they're essentially .13 micron Coppermine P3's, running on a 100 FSB by default. They OC pretty well, & are cheap.

Thank you very much! I just checked Powerleap website. They ask for $169 for the adapter including Celeron 1.2. If it were you will you just go with it or buy Celeron 1.2 and a new motherboard with the same amount of money?

Again, thank you very much.

Unless you have special attachement to your existing motherboard, it's a better idea to purchase a new motherboard and Tualatin processor.

Given that you are spending that much, you might as well look at a Northwood 1.6A and P4B266-C and go MUCH further with that.

yup, the celly 256k cache is sadly not an upgrade option at all. intel priced it far beyond its performance, and requires a new mb or adapter which is absurd for a dead end processor. i have a apollo pro chipset board and would love to get a cheapie processor upgrade.. slap and oc to 1.5ghz ..but only in my dreams because damn intel doesn't want people doing that. athlon xp system combos with motherboard and chip are far faster and selling for about 150-200bux together. so basically unless you really really need to use a celeron or found one for 50 bux with m/b(yea right) stay away. also, p4 1.6a or whatever combos are cheap now too, u can oc those suckers to 2.3ghz+ easily apparnetly.

I'd also like to go with AMD CPU and motherboard. Problem is I want to keep my 384M SDRAM. Can you recommend a good motherboard which support 1.6A and SDRAM? I will try to make a decision based on it. Thank you very much!

P4 + SDRAM isnt worth it. Performance is pathetic.

There is Athlon mobo ECS K7S5A which has both SDRAM and DDR slots (two of each).
You can use SDRAM for now ,then upgrade to DDR at some point. (Only one type
of memory can be used at a time.)

With BIOS upgrade it also supports new Athlons due out in May.

Darn but that ECS K7S5A just keep proving itself more and more awesome. :)
The fact it's only $90 Canadian ($55-60US) and just plain works really, really well....
Well... that's awesome. :D I need another computer since my wife and I fight over this one. If I can find silent cooling for an AMD processor, I'll consider it all the more.
