Celeron 2 Ghz

I was thinking of using an Abit IC7-G board with this cpu.

1. Is it powerful enough for divx?
2. What is the heat output of this thing?.. I can't seem to find any info on this. (probably cuz I'm lazy)

Anyway.. I have a thermalright xp 120 to cool this thing.. and a papst 12 db fan.. hopefully that will be the only fan in the system.

I want to use an intel system rather than a cooler amd system because I've had more luck with getting everything to work smoothly on intel systems. So.. ya don't need to tell me that amd is better.

and the pentium m is far to expensive for my budget.

Any input would be apreciated.. thanx

It will be fine as long as:
1. You don't plan on playing 3D games at high settings.
2. You have a hardware encoding PVR card.
3. I've heard that Windows MCE is pretty CPU intensive, so you might be looking forward to some slow times.

Otherwise I would get a processor with a stronger FPU. On that subject, I would still get a stronger P4 over a Celeron. 🙂

Thanx mr blemo. A p4 would use more power and be more expensive.

I don't really plan to use a pvr card at all. I just wanna play back divx and mp3.. and I want to use an intel chipset.. so. that leaves me little choice since the pentium m is so expensive.. yes tehre is the celeron m.. but the mobos are still too expensive.

A Celeron D 315 will give you a lot more performance for about the same price. The IC7-G is Celeron D ready.

Allo Lt.. ye sit will. .but also alot more heat. 🙁

my numder one priority is smooth divx playback.. and silent operation is just as important 🙂

If all you need is playback, you'd get by fine with a Socket370 Intel solution (no postprocessing.)

I don't think the Celeron D will be too hot, though.

I would find the cheapest P4 available like the 2.26A, or at least bump up the Celeron to the 2.4 which is only a couple bucks more than the 2.0.

The celeron 2.0 will happily overclock to probably around 3 ghz if i need it. the 2.4 can't underclock if I should need it though since it's already runnign the lowest available bus speed.

A celeron 2.0 at 3.0 will probably be just about as hot as the Celeron D at stock. The Celeron D's overclock well too. 😀

yep.. but 2 ghz is most likely fine from what I can tell.

I don't like prescotts 🙂

anyway.. anyone know what the heat output of a 2 ghz celery is?.. don't say intel.com! cuz I can't find it there

Sadly, I am using one of these processors right now 🙁. It doesn't get very hot, Asus Probe never reads its temp as being more than 35 degrees celsius (with stock cooling). However, Asus boards have issues in regard to the fact they ususally understate the temps by about 8 degrees.

Also, is it a Willamette or Northwood core Celeron? Because my chip is actually a 1.7 Willamette 🙁🙁 but I have a 30% overclock on it 🙂 Thing is, Willamette core was 180 nanometres - which use 1.75 volts instead of the 1.55 in Northwood P4s.

I hope this helps.

Also realize that a Celeron D runs a faster FSB(533) than the old Celeron (400), and has a larger L2 of 256K. And no, I doubt heat will be a problem.

TDP of a Celeron 2.0 is around 53W, The Celeron D 315 is around 73W.

I wonder if you could underclock the Celeron D to the 400Mhz bus and run it at 1.7Ghz? From 133X17 to 100X17?
