Hello all...

a friend of mine is currently looking to upgrade his current processor (300A oc 450 on a Soyo SY-7VCA). He is very budget oriented, so I was thinking that the Celeeron 1.0A would be a good choice. I found this one at newegg

CPU PENTIUM III/CELERON 1.0AGHz 256K L2 Cache FCPGA2 Processor BX80530F1000256, Celeron 1.0AGHz FCPGA2 form factor (370pin socket) - 1GHz Retail Box Model#: BX80530F1000256

My question is... will his board support this chip? I notice it says FCPGA2. I'm not aware of the difference between the FCPGA2 and FCPGA. Can anyone help.

Nope no good, I think the non 'A' Celerons go up to 1.1ghz though, why not get him one of those?

The only difference is that the FCPGA2 is slightly thicker than the FCPGA. Which isnt a problem unless you have a tight heatsink which may be hard to fit on a standard FCPGA.

You will not be able to use a Celeron 1.0A GHz processor on the Soyo SY-7VCA because it is a Tualatin processor, which has a different pinout.

Thank you all for your help. I just decided to get him the regular 1.0 Celeron with 128K. Maybe if I'm lucky, we can get it to go to 133, but I'm not counting on it.

Thanks again

I don't think there are any motherboards that can take a Tualatin if it can also take a PPGA Celeron.
