Cel D retail stepping?

Just ordered a boxed Celeron D 320 2.4GHz s478 from Newegg. I am anxious to know whether this will likely be C0 or D0 stepping. Has anyone bought a retail Cel D from there lately?

why is this important?

The stepping is the revision of the processor. Later steppings are newer and more likely to reach a high overclock.

i just got a celeron D 2.4 ghz, for a cheap extra machine. it's a D0 stepping

Was it a retail (boxed) processor, or OEM (cpu only)? And where did you buy it from?

roentgen-its a D0 stepping. You'll see that the OEM codes are the same

I wish it were that easy to tell, but unfortunately both steppings have the same OEM and box order codes.

overclocking difference is not very much either way, so it really doesn't matter.

I hope you're right! I'll post results when I get it on Fri.

You know even at 4.0 Ghz it's slower than a 3.2 Prescott right? And would get raped by a Sempron 2800 skt 754 OC?

I got the chip today, and the sSpec doesn't appear on Intel's website. I am not making this up!

From the chip:
2.40GHZ/256/533
SL87J MALAY
Q502A356

From the box:
Intel Celeron D Processor 320, 478 Pin
Product Code: BX80546RE2400CSL87J
FPO/Batch: Q502A356
Version #C92259-001 1.40v Max
Pack Date: 01/18/2005
Made in Malaysia

Could this be an E0 chip? The only E0 S478 listed at Intel is a 2.93GHz. I won't be able to try it out until tonite, but I'll post back then!

Well, not in every task, but generally I would go with the Sempron.

In every task: Take a look. CelD@3.8 gets whooped by 3.2E

Then Sempron@2.5 whoops 3.4E

According to CPU-Z, its an E0 stepping. On my ECS board, it wouldn't overclock reliably beyond 2.7GHz. I was pretty disappointed until I decided to try it in an Abit IS7. Instant rock solid 3.6GHz, and I was able to briefly get 3.8GHz. This is all with 100% stock cooling.

I ran some benchmarks, and at 3.6GHz it narrowly beats my buddy's Northwood P4-2.8E in Doom 3 (we both have R9800's). Not bad for $72 shipped!
