Ceiling Fan Replacement: Correct Wiring?

FAN Wiring----------Ceiling Wiring

Green----------------Green
White----------------White
Black-----------------Purple or Black (hard to tell the color)
Blue------------------Red

Is this the correct wiring?

The reason I ask is I just had to replace this ceiling fan in my living room. It is the same exact ceiling fan that is in my master bedroom. Even after replacing it, the one in the master bedroom is a good twice as fast as the one in the living (just replaced) on the highest setting on both.

Why did I replace this fan? Simply because it was this slow and started to sound like the bearings/motor were going, and its just a little over a year old.

Now, I followed the wiring above from the exact wiring of the previous ceiling fan wiring (installed by builder). Is anything wrong?

Where do the wires in the ceiling go? Sounds like you have a controller. Pull that and look at the wiring. Green/White/Black are ground/neutral/hot colors in North America standard 120VAC single phase.

No controller at all, straight to a dual switch on the wall (one for light and one for fan). What is the red wire for coming from the ceiling?

The red wire in the ceiling box is almost certainly the the second hot lead from the pair of switches. The fan itself should have two hots, one for the fan and one for the light.

As for it running slow, the fan has a three position switch on it for speed, is it at the highest setting?

black wire is for the fan and blue is for the lights.

Yes. That red/blue is a hot wire used for a light kit. I just installed one last week and had the same question lol 🙂

Yes, it is on the highest setting.

Yes, it is on the highest setting.

You may have a bad switch on the wall . Sometimes they make the connection just not a good one so lights can be dim or fans slower.

To find out you can remove the wires from the wall switch and join them with a wire nut. If the fan works now at full speed you found the problem.
