CDRWin 4.x & 5.x Counterfeit - Read in

Kinda weird I just came across this:

It seems that if you do a quick search on google for CDRwin you see links to Goldenhawk.de (which takes you to disc4you.de) and Goldenhawk.com. I guess they are not the same. Even though the software looks identical.

www.goldenhawk.com is the original CDRWin. Currently at 3.9a
Funny thing is, if you FTP into ftp.disc4you.de they also have versions 3.x. I do not know if they are legit versions.

CDRWin 3, 4 and 5 - same brand, different developers

A lot of you probably already noticed that there are currently several versions of CDRwin available on the internet. CDRWin has always been developed by Goldenhawk, but the 5.x versions seem to be developed in Germany.

We asked Goldenhawk if they have sold the brand and stopped development. Below the answer:

CDRWIN 5.0 is NOT from Goldenhawk Technology. We are
currently investigating this situation, and will have some
resolution to it soon. We strongly recommend that you do NOT
use version 5.0 as there are many reports of it crashing people's
systems. We have not stopped development, nor have we sold
the rights to our software.

We will not make an official statement at this time for legal
reasons.

In the mean time we used CDRWin 5.0 German in our latest review and tested the performance on protected CDs and we were suprised by it's results.

We also asked the developers of CDRWin 5.0 for an explanation. They claim to have the European rights for CDRWin and have decided to launch new development which leads to CDRWin 5.0, they are legally allowed.

Conclusion:

So to make things clear to everyone, Goldenhawk claims NOT to stop development of CDRWin, but CDRWin 5.0 is not developed by GoldenHawk.

The European rightholder for CDRWin is legally allowed to use the brand and will continue development. This version you will recognize by version number 5.x

Foolish me, I already d/l'ed and installed this POS. Yes, it did seriously screw up my system. I may have to reformat/reinstall everything. That'll teach me to d/l only from the original distributor.

BTW, there is actually already a version 4.x as you even quote later on, but their more or less the same with, I guess, some bugs fixed.

Forget it, I am looking at their site now and it seems that they only have 3.9, although I was almost sure 4.0 and 4.0a were made by them. Not sure

4.0 and 4.0a were written by GoldenHawk...they were made to have a better user interface than 3.9, but 3.9 has some options that 4.x versions do not so both are still able to be downloaded on their website
