CDRW Question

When using a CDRW with Direct Cd, once you format it does it basically act like a floppy?

I heard in the past then when using direct cd it doesn't necessarily delete files from the cd when you press deleter, rather it just hides it from view?
Is this true?


Another question is, after heavy usage of the CD do I need to format a CDRW again in the future?

i don't know about cd-rws in specific, but i'm pretty sure a lot of storage devices don't actually remove the file... notably hard drives. they just put a special character in front which marks it as deleted and things can be written over it.

If you use a rewritable CD, then yes, it deletes the file and allows the reclaimed space to be used for other storage. With a normal CD-R, this is not possible, and therefore, you cannot delete the file. Also, you shouldn't need to reformat the CDRW after heavy usage... I've been using the same, non-reformatted CDRW, for a few months and have had no problems.

For some reason when you format a CD-R disc, it will only allow you to put data on there and to be read by CD-RW drives.. So, I suggest not formatting your CD-R's
