CDRW drives bootable?

Can I use say Plextor or Yamaha 8x CDRW to boot? To replace a regular CD drive, and just having one CD drive on the comp?

Does anyone has this kind of setup? Disadvantage is too much usage on the burner, but it's only reading not burning discs. What do you think, when CD burners are a hundred bucks now and a decent CD-rom drive costs at least 50?

Yes they are bootable and I dont see any problems just using one drive. Burning cd's will take a little extra time since you cant burn copies on the fly like other with a two drive systems on seperate ide channels.

Great. Appreciated. Down this goes, and off I go getting a brand name burner, 'cause a nice Teac CD-rom costs 60 bucks.

I unfortunately have a cheap burner (who could say no to less than $90 a year and a half ago to a rewriter) that's only a 24X CDROM. It was horrible as a cdrom. I rarely got a cd to rip right off of it. Now as a burner, its been great. One coaster in all that time. I went out and bought a DVD drive to add to the system. Would have just bought a cheap cdrom if this deal hadn't come up.
