cdrw drives and vibration...

i have a liteon dvdrom drive and a aopen 24x cdrw.. the liteon vibrates alot when reading cd media (pretty much quiet when playing dvds though). the dvdrom and cdrw are right next to each other.. i rather not move either drive. but whenever i do a "disc to disc" on the fly, the cdrw is vibrating because it's so close to the dvd drive.. is this a teribly bad thing when burning cdrs? or does the cdrw have mechanisms to compensate for the vibrations..

ive burnt a cdrs and they seem perfectly fine. just want to know if i should worry in the long run.. 🙂 thanks

If it vibrates visibly, then it might be that one or more of the screws that hold the drives in place are loose. I remember the older CD-ROM drives that were really loud when reading CDs, so you might be in the same situation. Generally, and vibration/rattling to drives is not good for it in the long-run because it shakes around the gears inside the drive. I'd check the screws first before moving on to other solutions. Hope this helps.

thanks for the info... actually though, i have an antec sx1030 that uses drive rails that snap in.. i guess the only way to fix it then is to move it... ah well. 🙂

I don't think I'd worry about it, really. I guess I'm not there, so I can't tell you how severe your vibrating DVD drive is, but it seems like "normal" operating conditions. I've seen some Compaq computers with a VERY bad CDROM that vibrated quite a bit. Two years later, the school is still using the computer and the drives, which still work great to this day. 🙂

BTW, there are spaces between your drives, right? Say, a couple millimeters or so. Are both drives completely touching?
