CDRW drive and software recommendation

Well, I'm tired of my 4x burner and want a recommendation for a new burner and software suite. I want something that will avoid the copyright protection stuff they have deployed as of late, whether that be through hardware, software, or both. The 16x or 24x Plextors look pretty nice. Thoughts? Opinions? Recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Ryan 🙂

nero. plextor is overrated. almost any burner will be fine as long as you dont have some crap unstable machine. this isnt' the age of 2x burners, and hell when i had a 2x ide burned , the first one that came out, it worked fine anyways. I've had great luck with all burners i've used, including teac, panasonic, and lgs.

Buy my 12/10/32 Plextor IDE for 110.00 + 1/2 shipping, it comes w/ sealed Adaptec software, manuals, (1) 24xCD-R and (1) 10X CDRW.

Plextor is too overhyped. They make great drives, but so do others. I've had Plextor, Teac, HP, and Mitsumi and I've never had a problem with any of my CD-R's that was the fault of the hardware.

As for software, Nero pretty much does everything I need.

aopen's are freaky cheap... storage review likes the 12 speed one. love it, has justlink, comes bundled with nero (which you can upgrade to the latest version from). get it for 83 dollars at newegg! quality product...

nero is a fantastic program. I'm also one to believe plextors are overrated, but they are excellent. Many have enjoyed their recent lite-ons, which are better than their early versions. otherwise, be sure to checkout the hot deals board for cdr drives). there have been some incredibly low priced deals lately.

At $73.00, (from Newegg), the Lite-on 12X10X40 w/Burn Proof Technology is my current favorite. Comes with kinda clunky Adaptec software but for the $$, I can't complain. Installed over a dozen of these on variously configured systems. Lite-On works first time everytime. Customers seem to
luv 'em.
For $80.00, you can pick up a 16X drive if you like.

It may be a bit on the pricey side, but I LOVE my TDK veloCD 24/10/32 CD-RW. Don't know what to tell you about software, I usually just use XP's built in recording software.

if you want good quality for good price.. go with the Acer 12x8x10... you can get that for 30 bucks online.... very nice.. have had no problems with it what so ever... never had a bad burn..

Put in a Lite-On 16x and Nero on my latest build. The Lite-On (along with Lite-On DVD) is absolutely terrific. Highly recommended. 😀

I had an acer 10x and just got a plextor 16x. I'm really liking this plextor. Also, nero is a nice piece of software but not necessary for everyone. Adaptec does a good job at what it is made for.
