i used to have a 52x LG burner, i took it out and put it another comp, and i put my 12x acer burner in there, now windows just holds up at the progress bar screen, and doesnt do anything, theres HD activity everynow and then, all perfectly timed, so like the HD spins every 10 seconds, but it just doesnt do anything, ive waited hours. Now, if i disconnect the cdrom, windows boots up fine, but if i put on the cdrom again, it doesnt work, and its not the cdrom, it works on my own comp, on windows xp.

The system is athlon 1.4 wrkoing at 1050 coz i want it to be quiet.
Asus a7n-x nforce2 board.
256ddr 333mhz (working at 100mhz)
gf2mx
40gb maxtor
.....

yeah, and if i put on the 52x back in, it works, i duno why, the 52 worked when i put it in my comp, which originally had the 12x. weird, anyone know why.

yes the jumpers are all correct, no conflicts, and yes bios recognise it, i can start the winxp install using the cdrom. it just let winxp sits there.

try a different cable. It's not likely that's the problem, but some drives need a good quality cable to work right, your old one might have been able to handle it.

Also, try to see if you can boot from that cd drive. If you can't, then the drive may be gone(or it might be the cable). If you can boot from the cd drive, then go into windows safe mode, and delete all traces of the old burner.
