cdrom drivers?

Is there any point in installing cdrom drivers for newer cdroms? Isnt that stuff just for dos or if i installed them would my cdrom go faster?

i got asus s-400 40x

You don't need to install the drivers from your floppy for your CD-ROM, Windows regonizes it without having you install them. Installing them from the floppy will not give any performance increase. They are included just in case your CD-ROM isn't supported in the Windows boot disk...probably a couple more reasons, but that's all I know.

You need CD drivers to operate your CDrom in DOS and older versions of Windows like 3.1 and 95. (I'm not sure but this probably holds true for NT as well.) Windows 98, ME and 2000 boot disks recognize all ATAPI-based CDrom drives.
