Cdrom devices gone

Hi,

I have this problem, one day i turned on my pc the cdrom devices where gone.
I dont know how this happend, and they aren't detected in the bios.
Also my floppydisk is gone to..

I had this problem before and i uninstalled my cdrom devices, and reboot my pc so the hardware could be detected. That worked, but now it doesn't work anymore.

I think i need drivers? i dont know, can someone help me plz.
Also i cant autodetect the cdrom in the bios, it's saying NOT INSTALLED.

And i can open my master cdrom, but my slave cdrom i cant open.
my master is just a normal cdrom, my slave is a cdrom/rw.

Hi,

this is a BIOS problem - not Windows or drivers.

Check that the BIOS options are set to "Auto" for the discovery of IDE devices.

Failing that check that the IDE controllers are still enabled in the BIOS (sometimes a CMOS prblem could set them to "disable").

Failing that check the IDE and PSU cable connections and jumper settings in case something has come loose.

Failing that try a different IDE cable.

Then try the devices individually in another computer if all else fails. If they work it would probably indicate a bad motherboard.

ps - If you have just added a new device and this has happened, be sure that the power rating for your PSU is large enough for all the devices you wish to run. To try this unplug an IDE device and see if things start working.

Sounds like a very good plan.

In my experience, even one bad IDE cable (or connection) can cause all manner of seeming unrelated strange behavior. The plan above has swaping out the IDE cables for others as one of the steps. That could be it, but I'd go with the plan above and if it is an IDE cable, you will get to that step after trying the others, which are more likely the cause of the problems.
