cdrom can't read mode 1

I recently installed windows 2000 professional. I have a WORKING cd (tested on many friend's computers) of video files burned in mode 1. I can see the file names, size, date, etc. but if i try to play them or copy them to my HD, i get errors saying it's a bad disk structure. I was wondering if anyone knows what is causing this and how to fix it. I was able to access mode 1 cd's back when i had win98
