CDR-Problems

Does anyone know the best way to set up an IDE writer ?

Philips cd writer 4x4x32 and a Philips cd-rom 40x.I connected it up as cdr as master and cd-rom as slave to IDE 1 . hard drive is on IDE 2 as Master . This worked ok for a while then I started to get errors when trying to burn .

A friend helped me out and I think he connected it as Hard drive as ? ( I pressume slave )with the cd-rom as master to IDE 2 . The writer as master to IDE 1 .

This worked ok for a few weeks but now I keep getting more errors when trying to burn .

Hmmm you should connect the HD as primary master and the burner as secondary master. The CD-rom should be as either primary/secondary slave. I would recommend setting it as secondary slave.

Alot of people set these up differantly depending on the person. Heres how mine is setup and works fine on a older 2X CDR.

Primary:
Master - 20 GIG H/D
Slave - 6.8 GIG H/D

Secondary:
Master - Acer 50X
Slave - Acer 2X CDR (Slow I know but its been good too me)

I just ordered a new Plextor Burn Proof CDRW 10X12X32X I believe it is. Most new burners like to be setup as the Master, but shouldnt matter. When I get mine in I think I will set it up as the master.

Good Luck!

This is my setup;

Primary Master: Maxtor 40Gb
Primary Slave: N/A
Secondary Master: Pioneer 104S
Secondary Slave: Plextor 8/4/32A

I thought that the HDD had to be on IDE 1?
