CDR "errors is ouput device"

My 3 yr old plextor 12x says "error in output device" whenever i try to burn..

I dont think anything has changed on that machine lately.. Same CD blanks as always, but tried a few brands. Same on every disk.

Does this mean the burner is bad?

I think it is time for a new burner

It runs for about 5 mins and looks like it's doing ok, then gets that error...
