CDR & CDRW IDE installation: Does configuration matter? (XP disappearing CDRW)

I've got a factory CDR on IDE primary master and a Lite-On 12x CDRW (latest firmware) on secondary master with no HDDs on this IDE connector. (I have a SCSI HD and an ATA/100 PCI IDE card with 2 other HDDs). Does this configuration make a difference? Reason is I'm having trouble with WinXPPro and my CDRW. The built-in burning utility does not work and, after I running the burning program, XP does not even recognize the CDRW?!?!

Last install I had Nero and Discjuggler installed. Neither one was reliable and they wouldn't recognize the CDRW properly (they saw it as a 1x burner).

I've done two clean installs of XP. I'm stumped as to whether it is a configuration problem or a drive incompatibility problem. Any suggestions appreciated.

I think I've experienced a similar problem and got a fix from this link that was provided for me. Not exactly sure if it's your problem, but have a look.

Dood, have you installed the cd burner update from the windows update site?
as for nero, you need the latest version for XP!
you can also try installing an ASPI layer by using fORCEaSPI from
here!
I've done all of the above & can burn without problems!
