Engineer,

That's the wrong drive. The buy.com drive is a 12x/8x/32x drive, model CED-8120B, and the PDF you linked to is for an 8x/4x/32x drive, model CED-8080B.

Actually, it looks like LG linked to the wrong PDF from the 8120B web page! Anyway, bottom line is that this drive DOES have an 8 meg buffer.

8meg buffer.. a 12x writes 8 meg in about 4 seconds, not much time.. I would rather have burn-proof than an 8 meg buffer on a 12x, and especially on a 16x. Which is why I purchaced a TDK 16x with 2meg buffer and burn-proof over the Yamaha with 8 meg buffer and no burn-proof. Just my .02!

Sounds like an awesome deal. The Korean economy isn't doing all that well right now (I spent a week working at LG and Samsung about 8 weeks ago over there). This means that Korean name brands (LG, Samsung) are at really good prices. LG and Samsung usually make excellent quality products so this should be a great deal. Samsung HD TV's are also at really good prices...

i would guess the "I" at the end, like with almost all other cd-r manufacturers, signifies that it is internal.

does this thing burn cd-text?

Anyone else getting emails from them that they are looking for drives and will ship as soon as they find some? That was also two days ago, haven't heard a thing since. What's up with that?

I've got the LG 8080B CD-RW drive (8/4/32) at work and it's great. It's hard to explain this, but it seems sturdier than some of the newer CD-RW drives I've seen, including the Plextor/Iomega 12/10/32. When you stick a CD into the tray and load it in, the tray winds in very quietly and makes a nice muffled "thunk" sound afterward as the CD gets clamped in. LG also produces the iMac and Cinema Display 22" LCD (yes, the big droolworthy one) for Apple, among other things, so personally I don't see why folks express so many doubts about the quality of the components they can produce. Just Korea-bashing, if you ask me.

Got mine Tuesday but just got around to burning some CD's tonight. The first one came out fine at 12X. I'm not sure what happened on the second one, but the time index and starting/stopping points of the songs were off. Not ready to blame the drive itself yet since the first one (also audio) turned out ok. I was even burning cheapo 8X-rated discs at 12X. So far this seems like a pretty good drive for the money. Anyone ever get any hard info on the 99 minute CD's?

actually gcwhas some info on that. FYI:As far as i know you can not buy 99min cdr's yet. GCW does have a compatibility list though. Also i have not heard of any companies using 99 minute cdrs's either.

MOD:Game Copy World is a site "solely for cd backup porposes". I am not sure if that site is allright on the forums. If not feel free to remove it. i am kinda new at the forums and am not fully educated on "its ways"

Got mine and it's working great. Works with Nero 5.0 and clone without a hitch and I'm burning stuff I couldn't before like theif 2 and such. What's even better was I had ordered on the 12th and for some reason buy.com lost my order number (go figure) and found it after I had to all them as to where my order was... So the manager decided since they made a mistake they credited me half the price of the burner back I had paid and shipped it overnight. Must say this is the best deal on a CDRW at 54 bucks +shipping I've ever had! Very nice burner and still a great deal even at 129+sh.

i've got the 8080b also. Its works great. Dell and HP use them in their systems. Works with clone and nero, very quiet and reads CDs fast too.

Nero is superior to Adaptec in all ways. Also try cdrwin. Even better than nero5 is clone cd which makes perfect raw copies of a cd.
