I have a subwoofer which is right under a cabinet. Inside this cabinet I have cds in it. The subwoofer generates heat from a metal plate on the front, and the heat rises to the wood underneath the cabinet. Basicly is, that i'm just wondering is it okay to just leave it as it is? Will the cds still work after long term heat storage like that?

Speakers: FPS 2000 Digital

Thanks in advance.

Heat can EASILY damage CDs. I left some DVDs and CDs in a non-climate controlled storage unit and they are coasters now.

The odds that anything would happen to them are slim, but to be on the safe side, it would probably be smart to move either the CDs or subwoofer to a different location.

Unless the CD was sitting directly on the heatsink of the sub amp, I really wouldn't worry about it too much. If the CD's are more than 6" away from the heatsink, I think you'll be fine.

What really kills CD's is leaving them sit out on a car seat or your dashboard and baking in the summer sun. Now THAT will kill your CD's pretty easily.

ArkAoss - I've got some freezing in storage right now. When I find them I'll let you know if they still work.

ArkAoss, I've got a binder full of CD's out in my car that were left in -15 degree weather for about a week straight that still work just fine.

Does that count?

i have frozen cds with compressed air, and they still read fine. Also, i have a bunch of cds in a cd case in my car, and i leave it in the sun, and heat all the time. All the cds still work perfectly.

Okay, my subwoofer was only a inch away from the cd's so I decided to move the subwoofer. My GOD, when the heatsink was close to my monitor it made it blue and purple images on the side that was close to it. But now it is away from the cd's and actually, my desk now has alot more room :).

hito, the sub discoloring your monitor wasn't from heat, it's because the sub is unshielded and the magnet in the sub wrecks havoc on the display.

If you want to see somthing really cool throw a cd in the microwave. It only lasts a couple of seconds but it looks really cool! for the full/fool effect turn off the lights first!
