CD spanning?

Does anyone know if there is a free software application that allows multiple CD spanning of very large files (say 1 GB).
It looks like the good backup programs will do it, but I was wondering if there is something floating around for free.

Any help is appreciated.

I think that WinRAR (an archivinag program) can span multiple volumes, though you would need DirectCD or something of that sort to allow WinRAR to save files onto a CD-R/RW. This is just a hunch though, I have never tried using WinRAR for spanning any volume other than floppies.

Well since you are using DirectCD to access your CD-R/W as a regular device, any compression program that is capable of spanning should work. Some of the programs have logic to only span when drives A: or B: is selected, obviously WinRAR has bypassed that limitation, so look around for free compressors that are also capable of spanning and see if they will allow you to do it regardless of the device chosen..

I know for a fact WinZIP won't work here. Perhaps PowerZIP? Regards
