First they had the Memorex CD-Rs for $1.99 now they have the CD-RWs. Link.

"Memorex 700MB 10x CD-RW Discs with Slim Jewel Cases (5-pack)
Model: 3202-3415"

edit: Looks dead now. says no longer available but, if it is like the Memorex CD-Rs, there may be still some in the stores.

Anyone have any luck with Memorex branded CDRW's? Not really a big deal when the price is $1.99, but I'm just wondering.

Thanks for the post Allisolm

EDIT: replaced CDr

As I had not received my confirmation for my order and have been reading that BB was cancelling some orders, I went by after work last night to see if they had any in stock.

Our BB has SEVERAL locations for CD's and the like. Found 6 on the main shelf and took my five (as I had ordered) and then went around the store; found 20+ on another shelf in the 40X and 48X variety (I left them for others to follow, as I might be a lush, but I am not greedy!).

All-in-all, 100 48X CD's with slim cases for $10.70 out the door. Not too bad.

So, remember, LOOK AROUND the store and you might get lucky!

I stopped at the local Best Buy near my work last night on my home and picked up 5 of the CD-Rs. 3 of them were the 16x variety, 1 was 24x, and the 5th was 40x. Total, with tax, $10.45. That's hot enough for me.

Now that I know about the CD-RWs, I may have to stop again on my way home tonight!

I noticed that these CD-RWs (at least the ones I picked up for $1.99) have a big logo on there that says, "HIGH SPEED". And then it says, "for use in rewritable drives bearing the HIGH SPEED logo." On the back it says "To write, erase, and read this High Speed CD_RW Disc, a High Speed CD-RW drive identified by the Compact Disc Rewritable High Speed Logo must be used. This disc may not be recognized by a CD-RW drive not bearing the "High Speed Logo."

What the heck is that? I don't think I've seen any drives with the "high speed" logo. The question is - is that a gimmick or will it work in typical CD burners? Anyone have any insight?

Umm, it'll only work in burners that write RWs at greater than 4X speeds. They're different than the old 2-4X RWs that's all... so if your burner can do RWs 10 or 12X then you're all good. I've never seen any RWs certified for any greater than 10X... makes you wonder why they have so many RW burners capable of 12X.

Yeah..if your store has 'em, you can get them there. I went looking for the other CD-R deal but they were all out. Picked up two packs of these CD-RWs. The shelf tag even said $8.99 - $7.00 IR = $1.99.

Thanks Kokomo for your info - I know burners can burn RWs at 12x or 24x but never seen the "high speed logo". And the pack of CD-RWs I picked up can write up to 12x.

I think I'll pass by one for sure then on the way home. I know of two on the way so it's not that big of a deal to stop off. Just hope traffic isn't that bad today.

Sorry, I didn't read all the details and didn't know that they were selling the CD-RW 10-PACK for the same price. I just wanted people to know, that they need to look ALL over the store, since some Best Buy stores place these products in two, three or more locations around the store. The ones I found weren't even marked as on sale, and had a list price of $17.99....

Go figure!

Scored some in San Diego at the National City store. There were a bunch left in the cd-r section. I just grabbed two packs.

I have memorex 4X CD-RWs and they suck. 2 don't even rewrite anymore, 2 sometimes fails, and one works well

Looks like the online orders will ship but limited to one (which is fine with me 'cause I only ordered one :)). Got the following email just recently.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for shopping at BestBuy.com and your recent request to order the Memorex 700MB 48x Multicolored CD-R discs.

Due to the unanticipated high demand for this low priced product we have run out of stock and are unable to fulfill all customers' complete requests for orders. In accordance with our Terms of Service, we will be honoring the $1.99 price for one (1) unit per order per customer. If you purchased more than one unit in your order, that portion of your order will be modified to reflect the purchase of one unit and you will not be charged for additional units previously ordered.

Thank you for your understanding. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, or view our Terms of Service by clicking here:

Best wishes from Best Buy and the customer care team.

edit: dethman pointed out that the email says CD-R, but I DID order the CDRWs. Just rechecked the order status and verified. So something's screwy with bestbuy.
