hello,

my sony CD-RW, CRX230ED, doesn't detect cd-r discs. it detects normal discs (software, movies, music, etc.) but it will not detect blank ones. Whenever i try and make a data cd, music cd, anything, it tells me there is no blank disc in the drive. help me out!

k. all that told me was my drive is basically a lite on...

how do i go about flashing the firmware? that particular post contains virtually no information. where do i get the firmware update? i tried the only binary that was posted there, and it didn't work.

I'd suggest removing any upper and lower filters you have in the Class key of your registry (write down what's in there first) to see if that resolves the issue. You can do searches of my posts in the forums for that and you'll find a few links.

2 minute test: Does it work successfully in safe mode?

you sure these aren't cdrw's that haven't been erased for the first time?
Just wanna double check ;)

I'd remove PXHELP20 (the text; don't delete the LOWERFILTER itself). There's no information in the upper filter value for the DVD/CD-ROM? That's odd.

Did this driver ever detect blank CDR's or is it newly installed.
Try turning off the auto insert function.

-Right-click on the drive icon for your CD drive, CD recorder, or DVD drive, and select Properties.
-Choose the AutoPlay tab, and choose the desired action for each type of CD. For example, choose Music CD, then click Select an action to perform, then select Take no action

Sounds like you've identified it's a hardware problem. Congrats!
