I popped out my sony 8x and replaced it with a Lite-On 12x and now MY system only recognizes it as a cd-rom. I thought I'd try to update the driver with the driver disk that came with it and windows said that the best suited driver was already installed. Any clues or suggestions sure would be appreciated. The sony never burned a coaster, I don't know what I was thinking.

reinstall ezcd creator with the version that came with your 12x

(uninstall old one first)

you probably should have first uninstalled your Sony in device mgr.
Then go thru the install new device and you will be prompted for drivers.
Just a guess. I'm not a tech.

TomBilliodeaux, windows natively supports cdrom, dvd rom & cdrw. as a result, no drivers are required for such devices! :)

SeaHarp, suggest you check on adaptec website in case there's an update patch for ez cd creator for your problem of burner not being recognised!

Thaks guys, I appreciate the help. Finally got it to recognize and not quite sure how, and not going to question it.

BUT is it me or is 12x overrated. On my 8x I didnt have to store a temporary image on my hard drive, thus one less step. Even worse, I have burn proof and first try I burn a coaster. Actually it kicked it out before it was done saying there was an error. Never had one problem before with my sony, but I used click n burn software, maybe it is better than adaptec. I'm kinda curious why I cant record at 12x especially if it storing the image on the harddrive. Should have stuck with my sony with the 4 mb underrun. Oh well, live and learn.

It's definitely better to have hardware that can keep up with a 12x burner. Seems like your CD/DVD rom is too slow to do CD to CD at 12x. I'm not sure what error you got regarding the coaster but the only way I've been able to make one is by crashing something. I can do it in CDRWIN w/ burnproof off pretty easily tho. =P

Thanks for the response. My cd player is an Asus 50x. And as far as the burner being in dma mode, It is set on auto in my bios. Is there someplace else I'm supposed to make sure it is enabled?

I'm beginning to think it is the adaptec software that came with it. To burn a 3mb file from the time I initiated the process till the end was a couple of minutes. With the click and burn software, it was about as fast as I would hit the button to burn.

you didn't say what OS you were using but for win98, look in device manager/cdrom/your burner/properties/settings.
for win2k > Device Manager > IDE/ATAPI Controllers > Primary IDE/Secondary
IDE Channel > Advanced Settings > Transfer Mode > DMA if available >
> OK
