CD-RW - hangs 2 machines-Advice??

XP, 512 memory, 100 gig 7200 maxtor, dual monitors, lite - on cdrw {40x} i believe.

I have 2 computers both running XP - at times I have occasion to put in a cdr to download to hard drive my mp3 collection - yes it is a full disk -

My problem is that as I try to look at my files in the directory {explorer} or try to download them to hard disk - the liteon cd player/writer will start - stop - start accessing again and as it does this it will hang other activities on my machine - such as for 3 or 4 seconds my mouse won't even move to allow me to do other things. At times it will jsut sit there hang amchine and not start accessing for 5 or 10 seconds.

I don't believe the problem is my configuration as on both computers the lite on is set to master and has it's own IDE channel.

Any ideas on how to make the cd behave??

thanks for the answers
both are lite on - but two different machines - they write great - but when accessing "copying mp3-s or installing programs both will just sit there for a long time and then access -and then quit and then access again- - they get the job done but hang all other activities - XP won' allow me to do anything else

I recently installed a cd/dvd player and I can load and install programs quickly from that - the only thing that makes the cd/dvd player different in configuration is that I have it set to slave - the liteons are masters. Perhaps I will try making them slaves and see if the problem goes away.

I have had a similar problem, with my Plexwriter. I put a CD-RW into the drive, and either it is not recognized, or it locks up XP. Not sure what it is.

Sorry I am not much help, but I am having the same issue. It is not the CD-RW's That is certain...at least in my case.
