CD-RW Drives in LAN-Party PCs ???

Hanky

Senior member
A friend told me it wouldn't be such a good idea to carry a CD-RW drive around when going to LAN-parties and such things because it's much more sensible to movement and vibrations and so on than a standard CD drive...true or not? Anyone who made bad experiences?

I don't see the reason why it would be bad. They're not as delicate as they used to be. In most cases CD-RWs are built better than CD-ROMs and have extra "cushioning" for the laser so there is no error in the writing caused by movement.

I usually brought with me my external 12x1032S Plextor on extended trip. It takes a beating but I haven't had any problems with it so far.

dude... if it can survive a shipment from tiawan to cali on a plane then cali to your house via UPS.... it's gonna be able to survive a little road trip..

e-phex,

besides the fact I'm not living in "cali" 😉, your argument sounds good...I never truly believed it anyway...I have to admit though I was in doubt because my friend is usually very knowledgable. So I just wanted to get some more opinions.
