Ok, a little background. I've been using WindowsXP for about 4 months(whenever a month before it came out was) and at that time I had an Asus A7V and a 900mhz tbird and the system was rock solid. So, this past christmas I upgraded to an Epox 8KHA+ and an 1800+ and reformatted and reinstalled WindowsXP. That is when these problems seemed to start. I had been using Nero in WindowsXP since I had gotten XP and never had trouble with it used in conjuction with my Plextor 12x10x32. But now that I have this new motherboard things have gone all to hell. The real trouble is, that in the midst of all this upgrading I was doing no burning so I dont know exactly when the trouble started. I started noticing problems at the last lan party i went to. I was installed a game on my regular CD-ROM drive(which i recently replaced also) and the computer would lock. So I'd reboot and the BIOS wouldnt see either my CD-ROM or my CD-RW(they are both on the secondary channel). So I did a full shutdown and reboot and the drives were back. Also, when I would burn in Nero, it would get about 15% done and then it would stop. The program wouldnt freeze, the duration counter kept going for hours, but nothing would progress. So I'd try and close nero and it wouldnt close. Again, reboot, drives vanish, full powerdown and then powerup the drives come back. I tried burning CD to CD and hard drive to CD. Now, I decided to try Roxio and that doesnt seem to work either. I also noticed that when I put a CD-R disk in my drive the system gets really unstable. It'll get slow or folders wont open, or the start menu wont open and eventually I'll have to restart. I have no idea what is wrong, but Im ready to say the hell with XP. Any ideas on how to fix this? BIOS update? I've run the windows update crap and that didnt help. Anyone? Please.
