These won't apply to everyone, but if you're in a pinch for CDRs and you're a nut for Taiyo Yuden:

Sam's Wholesale Club: Maxell Audio, 50pk, $15

BJ's Wholesale Club: FujiFilm, 100pk, $23-$5MIR=$18, limit 5

I know not everyone is a member of these clubs, but I figured it might be worth mentioning. And yes, Maxell Audio - as well as Maxell Pro - are at least sometimes made by TY.

Thanks, as always, for the compilation.

Definately a very light week for CDR bargains.

Is it possible to figure out who made each of those CD-R's, or is it pretty much trial and error?

Im using Sony and Maxell right now and both are Ritek. They prolly all are ritek or someother crappy company except FUJI which are most likely TY

I used to think Ritek was crap myself many years ago, but reading around the various CD-R forums, Ritek is quite highly regarded. CMC Magnetics (Imation, TDK, and countless other brands) is still considered crap.

From my experience, Ritek is absolutely bottom of the barrel. My Plextor drives have always disliked burning on them, and even reading them is troublesome. In fact I just received 20 freshly burned Ritek discs from a friend, and for each one my Plex & CDROM both throttle like mad trying to read, and I end up with corruptions anyway. If I set the read speed to 8x with Nero Drivespeed, I'm able to copy the files to the hard drive and if they're important I'll reburn them to FujiFilm discs.

When I see people saying Ritek is one of the best, I really wonder what they're smoking.

I have to agree in general - nearly all of the older Ritek media is crap, except for CMC, which is even worse crap.

However, lately, those 32X-rated AT&T-branded Verbatim-sold Ritek-made media have worked out pretty well, burned at max speed on a Sony/Lite-On drive, low numbers of C2 errors when checked with CDDoctor at max speed in same drive. I use them for a lot of general stuff, and save my T-Y Fujis and Mitsubishi Verbatims for the really-good stuff. But those recent Riteks are "better than throwaway" media-quality now, IMHO.

I've only purchased one spindle of AT&T, and they turned out to be CMC. The recent Riteks my friend used were TDK branded.

Quite honestly I've never had a problem with any brand CDR that I've ever used on my Plextor drive. So, when I see CDRs on sale for dirt cheap I buy them; the brand doesn't matter to me.
