CD-Rom + Win98 = Audio Only!

Every CD (Data) I put into this old cd-rom drive, it reads as a audio. Any ideas why it won't read correctly? Thanks
 
Well, looking at device manager, everything has a driver and is working properly. It's a pretty old system, and it doesn't have a NIC card for me to hook it up to my network for internet access. So makes it a little difficult to update the drivers. Also, since CD's don't read properly, that's another stump in the road. Going look, see if I have any spare CD drives I can try out in the thing, to see if it's the OS or the CD drive's problem.
 
Hey, have you checked that the IDE cable is in properly. CD-Drives generally have seperate Audio/Data cables. A 3/4-pin for audio, and a 40-pin IDE for Data.

It's worth checking that it's in right.

If that doesn't fix it. make sure ALL of the pins are plugged in, and not bent.

Usually when Windows doesnt recognize the cd it sometimes defaults back to thinking its an audio CD. Your drive might be malfunctioning.

Can you play an entire music cd from beginning to end?

Can you borrow someone elses drive to test?
