cd-rom too fast?

I have a Creative 48x cd-rom in my newer comp and a 4x cd-rom in my old comp. I have some cd-r/ws and I find almost of them won't work well with the 48x, but work perfectly with the 4x. Originals seem to work fine with the 48x. So I'm thinking would buying a slower cd-rom like a 24x be a good idea? Or could it be the 48x is just dying?

Perhaps the 48x isn't very good at reading copied CDRs. Not really much you can do - except buy a new drive of course.

I think it probably has something to do with the CDRW's being written funny, but you can try slowing your drive down with:

Don't be intimidated by the german, just muddle your way through the install, the interface of the program is in english. This is useful, also, when you want to watch a dvd or a divx cd without noise from your drive.

A friend had a creative drive and didn't find it too great, even before he sent the tray flying across the room by knocking it with his knee 😀

Unfortunately, Creative CD-ROM's aren't the best. Try your media in a friend's 48x (or faster) drive. If reads okay in the other drive, replace the Creative.

if the cd0rom is generic , that could be the problem. for cd drivers i only trust some good names like plextor or toshiba

as I understand it the cd roms are on different computers right? If u are burnning them ur self are you closing the disks. If the computer that burns them were burnt with say 'adaptec direct cd' then they will
only be read by another computer with that software installed unless u closed them and make it compatible to be read in all cd roms.
