CD ROM issue - any thoughts?

I'm breaking out of my ATOT rut to actually post a technical question 😀

I have this old(er) Dell Dimension workstation (old = 1998 or so) - i think it's a 550. Anyway, the CD ROM will read data cd's, but not music. I've tried installing different players (Windows Media Player, RealPlayer), but the same thing happens - it won't recognize a music cd. I even switched out cd players - put in another one from a similar machine and the same thing happened. In the device manager, it looks like it's installed fine and it worked for the user previously.

Thoughts? Comments?
