I have aopen ax6bc pro gold (bios 1.12), this is my second machine. CD-rom on this mobo keep failing for some reason. BIOS finds it, everything is fine unil I try and install OS. I have triedboth win98 and xp and I get " CDR01not ready reading drive E". At first I thought that perhaps my CDs were damaged but that's not the case. They run fine on my other machine. I have swaped the CD-roms and the new one does the same thing. Cables are hooked up fine, since bios recognizes the CD-rom (secondary master) without any problems. Even when setup as a primary master, the Cd-rom is completely useless. Cables are fine, jumpers are always set to master, power cables are fine....am I overlooking something? I have never seen this happen before. IS there a switch in bios where i could enable cd-rom?? Please, any suggestions are always welcome....

OK, let me get this straight...your AX6BC will not boot from a Windows 98 CDROM or from a Windows XP CDROM, no matter what CDROM hardware that you install in the machine?
But, that same CDROM will "read" other CDROMs like audio or games or other programs just fine??? or not???
Have you tried booting Win 98 from a floppy with CDROM support/driver on the floppy and in the autoexec.bat & config.sys files and then seeing if the CDROM can be accessed while in DOS??
Have you tried disconnecting your hard drive completely and putting the CDROM on IDE 1 (Master) and seeing if it will boot from the CDROM then???
Have you made certain that the CDROM is in the boot up "order" before the hard drive in the BIOS settings???

Yes, you're right on all counts. The same CD ROM will read other CD, audio, games, Win98, win XP (boot) on my other rig, but not on my ax6bc pro. I have tried connecting the drive as primary master, no HD. The BIOS sees it, once I go to DOS to setup I get "CDR01 not ready reading drive E". Boot order is setup as CD_ROM, A, C...

I have never sees this before. ITs like to mother board refuses to acknowledge the CD..

Yes, but not much luck with this one either. Looks like I'll have to drop this motherboard and get a new one...
