Cd-Rom Drive won't stay closed

I went to read a cd I had burned on another PC and my drive could not read the CD.
I ejected the CD and closed the drive .
A letter " C " appeared on my desktop, about an inch tall, it was not an icon and it would appear ontop of
every program page that I requested

2 seconds later the drive opened, no matter what I try the drive opens and stays that way.

I shut the system off and rebooted, the letter "C" was gone but the drive door was again.

I removed the hardware in the device manager and rebooted the system, but it still won't stay closed.

It is a Toshiba 6502b drive, my operating system is 98SE, an Abit STR motherboard with a Tulatin 1.2 Processor, and 512 Sdram.

I checked for spyware and ran a my anti-virus program.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Well, there was a virus that would do that. If you are running goback or Win ME's system restore, you have to disable those or the virus hides in the restore files.
