CD ROM drive question

hey guys -- just wondering if the CD ROM usually gets plugged into a master IDE slot, (for instance, IDE 0 -- master) or if it gets plugged into the slave, or not into the IDE at all. if not, please let me know where and how it should go. Thanks!

also, i was wondering--- if it's not supposed to be on the IDE slot, could this possibly be causing drive conflicts with my main drive (which is on SATA1)?

There is no master or slave IDE, only Primary and Secondary. The CD ROM has jumpers to set itself to either Master or Slave.

But to get back to what I believe you're asking: yes, you can connect the drive to either Primary or Secondary. If your boot drive is IDE, it should be on Primary set to Master (or CSEL) with the optical drive set to Slave (or CSEL). Or you could hook up the optical drive to secondary and set it to Master. There are a couple of other options, it's up to personal preference.
