CD rom drive installation problem

Hi. I built a pc about 2 months ago with a 52x cdrw drive. I didnt really have any problem installing games or burning to cd, but now im trying to install visual basic .net, with the 6 cds. the installation starts, but after about a minute the cd rom stops spinning and it just stops so the installation wont continue. I wondered if i had my master/slave settings wrong, but it doesnt seem to be. I got system error logs:

An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation.

and another:

The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try to install other programs and see what happens. Is the VS disk damaged? Uusally the bad block issue is a damaged disk or a dirty laser.

1. Check the media make sure it's not dirty or damaged.
2. Try to get a laser cleaner disk. They are like 10 bucks.
3. Make sure all the connections to the drive is secure.
4. Try a new IDE ribbon if you have another one.

Just some things you can go over. If you provide some computer specs it would be helpful.

specs:

sempron 2200+ 1.5ghz
256MB DDR400
Geforce FX5500 GT (Gigabyte edition)
40 gig 7200rpm HD
Rosewill RR 521 CDRW drive
I have the HD on the primary IDE set at master, and the CD drive on the secondary IDE set at master.

Did any of the suggestions work?

Try the next suggestion if the others don't work.

Another suggestion is try putting the CDRW on slave on the primary IDE and see what happens.
