Ive had this problem before.. the cdrom device in device manager is disabled and will not allow me to enable it.. i took out cd burning software and I have a feeling this caused it, the OS is win xp pro, and i know someone on this site posted me the key and i took it out and it worked fine, does anyone know this problem/where the key is?

thanks,
matt

ya i tried that it comes back up.. and when i go to enable the device it reacts so quick.. theres not a problem with the physical drive just the registry key.. anyone know anything about this? ill keep surfing around..

thanks for your help though

The old UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry keys might be your problem. Delete them.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-0 87002BE10318}

Delete the following two keys

UpperFilters

LowerFilters
