Which is better to have on the master IDE channel? My Plextor CD-R or my Teac CD-ROM?

Thanks,
David

there isnt really a difference since both devices dont use the full bandwith... my suggestion would to have both cdrom drives on the same channel and use the main channel for your hd's

Depending on who you talk to you can put either on master.
I always put the CDRW as master and CDROM as slave. Someone will likely say that having them on the same channel makes direct copy more iffy.

I had thought about that, but the cables just won't reach from where the hard drives are to the CD-ROM drives.

There are longer cables. OTOH, I've had good luck with the CDRW and CDROM on the same channel.
The HD and CDROM on the same channel could slow down your HD too.

With IDE it's often a compromise.

Well, my main reason for writing this is because since I've taken out my Promise Ultra100 and put my hard drives on the Primary IDE channel and the CD-ROMs on the secondary, DiscJuggler is giving me an error I didn't have before. It started telling me that the User Buffer is too Large. I had burned a CD earlier in the night. I had been having problems with transferring large files. That problem has gone away, but the DiscJuggler error is there. Nero works fine. I'm not copying a CD when I get the error, either. I figured it may have something to do with the CD-ROM and CD-R being on the same channel. Any ideas?

What motherboard are you using?
When you said "large files" a light went on.

It's not the VIA problem. The problem with large files seemed to be either my Ultra100 card or the rounded cables I was using. Since I've taken out the card and switched the cables, I don't have that problem any longer.
